I cannot say enough wonderful things about David and the incredible support he has given my husband and me throughout this difficult journey. My husband is a Navy veteran who is struggling with several serious, debilitating medical conditions. Watching someone you love suffer and slowly lose the ability to do the things they once enjoyed is heartbreaking. Trying to navigate the complicated VA disability process on top of everything else can feel overwhelming. Then we found David. From the beginning, David has shown us genuine compassion, patience, understanding, and an extraordinary amount of knowledge. He takes the time to listen, answer every question, and guide us through a process that we could never have fully understood on our own. What makes David so special is that he doesn’t treat veterans like just another case or number. He treats them with the dignity, respect, and compassion they deserve. He understands that behind every disability claim is a veteran who has served our country and a family whose life has been forever changed. During some of our most difficult moments, David has given us something incredibly valuable: hope and the reassurance that we are not facing this journey alone. There are people who simply do their jobs, and then there are people like David who truly make a difference in the lives of others. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, David, for everything you have done and continue to do for our family. We are beyond grateful and would wholeheartedly recommend you to any veteran or family needing guidance and support. You are truly a blessing!

I want to take a moment to personally thank David at Veterans Medical Opinions for all his hard work, dedication, and consistency throughout my VA claims process. From day one, David has been professional, knowledgeable, and committed to helping me navigate the process. What I appreciate most is his consistency, communication, and willingness to go the extra mile to make sure everything is handled properly. Anyone who has dealt with the VA knows how frustrating and overwhelming the process can be. Having someone like David in your corner who genuinely puts in the work makes a huge difference. I recently received a favorable decision on my claim, and I truly appreciate the time and effort David put into helping me along the way. David, thank you again for everything you've done. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and I would absolutely recommend Veterans Medical Opinions to other veterans seeking professional assistance with their medical evidence.

Got a 50% rating from the VA within 30 days, that put me over 100%! David Protaziuk was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. My initial review was completely free, and he explained exactly what was needed to prepare a strong nexus letter. The letter itself was not generic or cookie-cutter, it was detailed, factual, and based on the actual evidence in my records. The entire process was professional, straightforward, and the turnaround time was less than 24 hours. I highly recommend David to any veteran looking for help with a well-supported nexus letter.

I cannot recommend Dr. David highly enough! From start to finish, my experience was exceptional. He is incredibly knowledgeable, professional, thorough, and genuinely dedicated to helping veterans navigate the complexities of the VA disability claims process. What impressed me most was his attention to detail and his ability to review complex medical information, identify the most important issues, and develop a comprehensive, well-supported medical opinion. He clearly understands both the medical and VA disability aspects of these claims, which makes an enormous difference. His communication was outstanding, his turnaround time was excellent, and he took the time to ensure everything was addressed thoughtfully and accurately. It is refreshing to work with someone who combines this level of expertise with genuine professionalism and responsiveness. For any veteran seeking a thorough, credible, and professionally prepared independent medical opinion or nexus letter, I would highly recommend Dr. David. Five stars without hesitation!

LEGAL & CLINICAL AUTHORITY

The VA Trusts Nurse Practitioners to Run Its Exams.

Many VA C&P exams are done by nurse practitioners, and I was one of those examiners for 3 years.

The VA takes a nurse practitioner’s letter seriously. A veterans court ruled that a nurse practitioner’s medical opinion counts.

What makes a letter win is the reasoning and the records behind it. That’s what I put in every one.

Start My Free Case Review

Federal Law Definition

The VA defines competent medical evidence as evidence from a person qualified by education, training, or experience to give medical opinions. 38 CFR 3.159(a)(1).

Courts Say NP Opinions Count

The Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims ruled that a nurse practitioner is qualified to give medical opinions in VA claims. (Cox v. Nicholson, 2007)

Reasoning Over Title

The Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims confirmed: the value of a medical opinion depends on its reasoning and evidence, not the provider’s title. (Nieves-Rodriguez v. Peake, 2008)

VA Uses NPs for Official C&P Exams

The VA relies on nurse practitioners to run official C&P exams, the same exams used to rate your claim.

Licensed in Illinois, Working in All 50 States

My opinions are based on a review of your records, not on treating you. Nothing in 38 CFR 3.159(a)(1) requires the provider to be licensed in your state, and veterans in every state order from me. What matters is the reasoning and the evidence, not where the provider practices.
Every opinion prepared by David Protaziuk, MSN, APRN, FNP-C meets the VA’s legal standard for competent medical evidence. The same standard applied to physician opinions.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything You Need to Know

How do I know you’re not another VA claim scam?

Fair question, because these scams are everywhere. I’m a real solo practitioner with a real IL APRN license (#277002570) and NPI (#1275200149). My office is at 7501 Lemont Rd, Suite 345D, Woodridge, IL. I personally read every record, write every opinion, and sign every document. No sales team, no call center. I offer a free case review before you pay anything, and 100+ verified 5-star Google reviews to back it up.

Are my medical records safe?

Records you email me go directly to my HIPAA-safe Google Workspace, encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2) and at rest (AES-256), BAA-covered. I am the only person who accesses them, and they are never shared with third parties.

What if the VA denies my claim after your opinion?

No medical provider can guarantee VA outcomes, and you should be skeptical of anyone who claims otherwise. What I guarantee is the quality of my opinion. If the VA denies, send me the decision letter. I read it myself, free of charge, and tell you plainly where your claim stands. Sometimes the honest answer is that a rebuttal will not change anything, and I will say so. When a rebuttal is worth writing, it is $199 and it takes on the VA’s stated reasons directly.

Do you help with secondary conditions and PACT Act claims?

Yes. I write nexus letters for secondary conditions (like sleep apnea secondary to PTSD) using the Spicer v. McDonough but-for standard under 38 CFR 3.310(a)/(b). I also write opinions for PACT Act toxic exposure claims: burn pits, Camp Lejeune, Agent Orange, and other presumptive exposures.

How is a nurse practitioner qualified to write VA medical opinions?

The VA trusts nurse practitioners to run its exams, and the VA takes a nurse practitioner’s letter seriously. Many VA C&P exams are done by nurse practitioners, and I was one of those examiners for 3 years. A veterans court ruled that a nurse practitioner’s medical opinion counts.

Are you licensed in my state?

I am licensed in Illinois, and I work with veterans in all 50 states. My opinions are based on a review of your records rather than on treating you. Under 38 CFR 3.159(a)(1) the VA accepts competent medical evidence from any qualified medical professional, and nothing in that regulation requires the provider to be licensed in your state. What matters is the reasoning and the evidence behind the opinion, not where the provider practices.
