You need three pillars to support a service-connected condition. 1. Diagnosed ongoing disability 2. An in-service event 3. A nexus linking the event to your disability The nexus is often the most challenging part. Paying for an ‘opinion’ from one of the many shady nexus letter mills is worse than no letter at all. I have considered a dozen nexus providers over the past five years. I rejected all but one —an Ivy League MD specializing in my condition I tried David entirely on a whim, and was blown away — He’s so superior to the others, it’s like pitting an NFL team against an average high school football team.. David responded within hours— HE responded, not an autoform or cheerful but clueless assistant. Also, he requested precisely what’s needed to develop an opinion— no more, no less. My conditions are genuine, and the result of my military service. I wanted a qualified medical professional to critically examine the evidence and give an honest assessment. I’d prefer a doc decline my case, than fabricate to a favorable opinion because I paid him off. David cares, and he knows what he is doing. I am paying dearly for an Ivy League MD w impressive credentials to develop a nexus letter for a related condition. The letter will be done on Monday. So for $2k, I got an impressive provider, but I just gotta keep my fingers crossed the nexus letter does what I hope. With other nexus providers, you get long questionnaires and about 10 minutes w someone to discuss your service-related conditions — rarely the actual doc. He took the time to thoroughly understand my conditions, examine every possible cause, then wrote an honest, fact-based statement using VA’s governing laws & regulations to support and defend my case. Then, he explained it to me thoroughly to ensure it met my needs and expectations. What’s funny, is my experience w David vs the incredibly qualified & expensive Ivy League MD, pretty much mirrors my experience getting actual medical care over the years. An experienced, competent NP or PA is usually a far better practitioner to work with than the actual MDs. Developing your own VA claims grinds you down, and saps you both emotionally & spiritually. I was reaching my limit— I almost gave up. David was a ray of light and hope in a claims process that is primarily conducted behind closed doors, shutting us out. He’s personable, incredibly qualified, but with none of the dismissiveness that so often accompanies the practitioners we deal with through the claims process.
