“Highly recommend Dr. Protaziuk for VA nexus letters. The entire process was smooth, professional, and very veteran-friendly from start to finish. He offers a completely free case evaluation, which really helped me understand whether my case was worth pursuing before spending any money. What stood out the most was the level of detail and care put into my nexus letter. Thanks to Dr. Protaziuk’s help, I was ultimately awarded 100% Total & Permanent by the VA.”

Akelia Charley

“I had a very positive experience working with this company for an Independent Medical Opinion related to my VA Aid & Attendance claim. They took the time to review my denial letter, prior medical form, and supporting statements, and tailored the IMO directly to address those deficiencies. The final report was thorough, well-organized, and clearly explained how my service-connected conditions impact my ability to perform activities of daily living — exactly what the VA looks for in Aid & Attendance claims.”

Eric Burnham

“Outstanding service! I needed a DBQ to support my claim, because the VA set me up twice to have one done but instead just did an Acceptable Medical Evidence (ACE) review. David actually completed a DBQ after reviewing the evidence I sent him — in less than a day. The DBQ I received is extremely well written, thorough, consistent with the evidence I sent, and professional. David understands the way the VA likes things to be written and coded.”

Jonathan Kilgore

“David’s work was absolute perfection. Everything he prepared was excellent, professional, and written with great attention to detail. I would recommend him to anyone who needs help with VA-related paperwork, including nexus letters, DBQs, TDIU claims, or anything of that nature. He has completed several projects for me, and every time the work has been done at a very high level.”

Maurio Stewart

“I can’t say enough positive things about Dave’s service. His Nexus letters are the most professional that I have seen. He communicated well, took the time to go through my entire service records and found things that others have missed and delivered quickly. He is extremely knowledgeable about the VA disability system and understands how to structure accordingly.”

Craig Lindquist

“Very personable experience, it’s not just another website that preys on veterans. Took the time to consult with me and have a real exam experience, then wrote a personalized effective nexus letter, not some canned generic waste of time and money! Cannot recommend highly enough!”

Conditions requiring physical examination or in-person testing. Musculoskeletal conditions (back, knee, shoulder, neck, hip, etc.) are evaluated based on findings already documented in your medical records — including prior imaging, treatment notes, prior C&P exam findings, and physical therapy records. We do not conduct telehealth visits, in-person visits, or new range-of-motion testing. If your records do not contain sufficient existing findings to support an opinion, we will let you know during the free case review before any payment is made.

Nurse Practitioners Opinions Carry the Same Evidentiary Weight as a Physician's

  • Under federal law, an NP's medical opinion carries the same weight as a physician's in VA disability claims — this is not a workaround, it is the law.

Federal Law Definition

The VA defines “competent medical evidence” as evidence from any qualified medical professional — NPs are explicitly included under 38 C.F.R. § 3.159(a)(1).

Cannot Be Rejected by Title

The VA cannot reject a medical opinion solely because it was written by an NP instead of an MD. The law is clear on this point.

Wave Signal Streamline Icon: https://streamlinehq.com

Reasoning Over Title

The Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims confirmed: the value of a medical opinion depends on its reasoning and evidence — not the provider’s title. (Nieves-Rodriguez v. Peake, 2008)

VA Uses NPs for Official C&P Exams

The VA routinely uses Nurse Practitioners to conduct official Compensation & Pension (C&P) disability examinations — the very exams used to rate veterans’ claims.

Legal Authority

  • 38 C.F.R. § 3.159(a)(1) — Defines "competent medical evidence" to include qualified medical professionals such as Nurse Practitioners.
  • Nieves-Rodriguez v. Peake, 22 Vet. App. 295 (2008) — Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims: opinion value is based on reasoning and evidence, not provider title.
  • Every opinion prepared by David Protaziuk, FNP-C meets the VA's legal standard for competent medical evidence — the same standard applied to physician opinions.

Why VA Claims Get Denied

Many VA disability claims are denied due to insufficient medical nexus evidence.

No clear medical nexus between service and the condition

ic_fluent_document_search_24_regularCreated with Sketch.

Insufficient medical rationale in the opinion

Secondary conditions not properly documented

Toxic exposure claims lacking medical support

Medical evidence not clearly linking condition to service

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about the process.

How do I know which service to choose?

If you are unsure, start with the free case review. We can review your claim and let you know whether a nexus opinion may help support your VA disability claim.

Do you guarantee VA approval?

No. VA decisions are made by VA adjudicators. Payment covers the time spent reviewing records and preparing independent medical documentation.

Is an in-person exam required?

No. This service is record-based only. Opinions are based on review of your medical and service records.

Where do I send my records after payment?

After checkout, email your records to dprotaziuk@veteranmedicalopinions.com

What types of records should I send?

  • VA decision letters
  • Service treatment records
  • Private medical records
  • VA medical records
  • Relevant diagnostic testing

How long does it take?

Typical turnaround is approximately 24 hours after complete records are received.

What happens if my records do not support a nexus opinion?

If the evidence does not support a favorable medical opinion, you will be notified before a document is issued.

How long does the free case review take?

Most free case reviews receive a response within 24 hours.

What is a nexus letter?

A nexus letter is a medical opinion explaining how a veteran’s condition is connected to military service or to another service-connected condition.

Why are your opinions less expensive than many nexus services?

Many consulting firms charge $1,000–$2,500 for nexus opinions and require paid consultations.

This service provides flat-rate medical documentation without consultation fees or third-party agencies.

Learn more

Do you offer video visits or in-person exams for musculoskeletal conditions?

No. All opinions — including those for back, knee, shoulder, and other musculoskeletal conditions — are developed from existing medical records. This includes service treatment records, post-service treatment notes, imaging studies, physical therapy records, and prior C&P examination findings. Our role is to provide an independent medical opinion based on the documented evidence in your file. If a veteran needs new physical examination findings or range-of-motion testing, that should be obtained from a treating provider before requesting a nexus opinion. We will tell you upfront if your records lack the documentation needed to support a strong opinion.

What is the difference between a Nexus Letter and a DBQ?

A Nexus Letter is a medical opinion that explains the connection (or “nexus”) between a veteran’s current condition and military service. It is used to establish service connection. A Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) is a standardized VA form that documents the current severity of a condition for rating purposes. Many claims benefit from both: a nexus letter to establish service connection, and a DBQ to document severity for the rating decision. The Nexus + DBQ Bundle covers both for a single condition at a discount.

How does this compare to larger nexus letter services?

Every opinion is personally prepared and signed by David Protaziuk, FNP-C — never templated, generic, or outsourced to a writing team. Pricing is flat-rate and transparent: you know what you’re paying before you submit records, and there are no consultation fees. If your records don’t support a favorable opinion, you are notified before any document is prepared. Many larger services charge $600–$1,500 per opinion and require paid consultations; this service offers the same level of clinical rigor at a lower flat rate.
